  8.      At the Program Selection Menu, position the cursor over 
  9. "Keypad" and select this item.  
  10.  
  11.      The Keypad Exerciser closely resembles the Keyboard Exerciser 
  12. in its organization and operating procedures.  However, unlike 
  13. Keyboard, Keypad does not require precomposed scripts as its numeric 
  14. scripts are created by a random number generator.  The maximum 
  15. timing interval in Keypad is 1-minute and its selectable instruction 
  16. weeks are weeks 1-12, entered at "Week Number."

  18. FREE FORM

  20.      Now engage in a Free Form timing.  If you wish, change the 
  21. default week number.  Press Function 9 to determine the numbers per 
  22. minute rate required for each grade level.  Select "Begin Exercise." 
  23.  
  24.      Five columns are now viewed, each column containing ten 4 digit 
  25. numbers.  The decimal displayed within each number is automatically 
  26. entered and thus is not to be keyed.  Its purpose is to facilitate 
  27. the reading of each number.

  29.      Prior to beginning the 1-minute timing press Function 1 to 
  30. obtain a help screen.  You are informed that each number is to be 
  31. "entered" with the "+" bar.  An error entry may be deleted with 
  32. either the CR key that serves as the "Entry Clear Key," or the "-" 
  33. key.  The Entry Clear Key deletes all digits, while the "-" key 
  34. deletes one digit at a time, beginning with the last digit entered.

  36.      Once the Tab key is depressed the 1-minute timing begins.  
  37. Following the entry of the first column of numbers, the tracking 
  38. cursor jumps to the top of the second column of numbers continuing 
  39. in this manner throughout the five columns.  As each number is 
  40. entered with the "+" bar, it is positioned in the simulated adding 
  41. machine tape located to the right of the numeric copy.  Like Free 
  42. Form timings in Keyboard, Keypad Free Form timings can be ended 
  43. prior to the expiration of a full minute.  For some keyboards the 
  44. NumLock key must first be depressed to convert the "1" key to the 
  45. "END" key.

  47.      At the conclusion of the timing the numeric script copy is 
  48. removed from the screen and is replaced by the numbers keyed by the 
  49. operator, each number containing an error visually marked.  The 
  50. Score Card states the numbers per minute rate, error total, 
  51. instruction week, grade, etc.  A failure to correct ALL keystroke 
  52. errors results in a minimum one letter grade penalty.  To conclude 
  53. the timing the ESCape key is depressed to return to the Keypad 
  54. Exerciser Menu.  To initiate another Free Form timing using the menu 
  55. selections of the first timing, again select "Begin Exercise."

  59.      The procedures described for the Keyboard Exerciser Test Trials 
  60. and Paced Cursor timings also apply to the Keypad Exerciser program 
  61. and thus are not repeated.
